Write Them Off at Your Peril…” — Derek McInnes Fires Warning to Rangers Over Celtic — Message That Could Rattle Danny Rohl

Posted on April 4, 2026

Celtic’s campaign has been anything but smooth, unfolding like a season full of twists, setbacks, and brief moments of promise. Supporters have had to navigate inconsistent performances, unexpected losses, and a squad stretched thin by injuries.

Once the dominant force in the Scottish Premiership, the Hoops have shown signs of fragility, leaving their title ambitions hanging by a thread. Each match now feels decisive, with little room left for error.

Still, amid the uncertainty, one figure continues to command respect across the league — Martin O’Neill. His presence in the dugout hasn’t solved every issue, but it has injected belief and composure into a side under immense pressure.

Rivals understand that regardless of injuries or form, an O’Neill-led team is never an easy opponent.

That sentiment is echoed strongly by Derek McInnes, whose Hearts side currently sits top of the table. Despite his team’s strong position, McInnes is refusing to dismiss Celtic from the title race.

“Absolutely. You can never rule out a Martin O’Neill team at any stage.”

“They’ve got quality, they’ve proven themselves over time, and they’re led by a top-class manager. The defeat at Tannadice was a setback, no doubt, but there’s still plenty of football left. Anyone writing Celtic off now would be foolish.”

His comments highlight a deeper reality — this season has not been defined solely by results, but by unpredictability. Managerial changes, injury concerns, and fluctuating performances have all shaped Celtic’s journey.

To realistically stay in the hunt, they’ll likely need to win their remaining seven fixtures while hoping both Hearts and Rangers stumble. It’s a daunting challenge, but not an impossible one.

What adds further intrigue is the post-split schedule. Both Hearts and Rangers are still to make the trip to Celtic Park — a factor that could swing momentum dramatically. However, a worrying stat looms large: Celtic have yet to defeat either side this season.

For many, that would signal the end of their title hopes. But McInnes sees something beyond numbers.

“Form and statistics only tell part of the story. Experience, mentality, and a manager’s influence — those are the intangibles that can change everything.”

The upcoming fixtures could prove decisive. Rangers face Dundee United, Hearts travel to Livingston, while Celtic prepare for a crucial clash with Dundee at Dens Park.

Any slip-up at this stage could be fatal to Celtic’s ambitions. Yet with O’Neill guiding them, they remain a dangerous outsider — a team capable of defying expectations when it matters most.

With seven games left, the margin for error is gone. Every moment counts. And as McInnes has warned, dismissing Celtic now could prove to be a costly misjudgment.
