Former Georgia DB Julian Humphrey announces he’s transferring to new SEC school
ATHENS — Julian Humphrey was the first Georgia player to enter the transfer portal. He is now the first former Bulldog to find a new home.
The former Georgia cornerback announced on Sunday morning that he would be transferring to Texas A&M. Humphrey will have two years of eligibility at Texas A&M. The Aggies are not scheduled to face Georgia in 2025.
Humphrey started 10 games for Georgia this past season but saw his playing time diminish in the later parts of the year. Humphrey announced that he was entering the transfer portal the Sunday before Georgia’s SEC Championship game victory over Texas.
Humphrey is from Houston. He was not with the team for the SEC Championship and will not be with the team for the College Football Playoff.
“We’re always talking and dealing with our players. That’ll move to the forefront like right now in terms of what we do,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said on dealing with the transfer portal. “But then we’ll start back practice and we’ll continue to get better with the guys that want to be here. And there’s not going to be a team in the country that doesn’t have somebody leave, probably somebody they don’t expect. But I almost feel like that’s become the norm. And it is what it is. We’re going to coach the ones that want to be here.”
As for Georgia, the Bulldogs have started Daniel Harris at cornerback in place of Humphrey. Georgia also has Daylen Everette, who had 2 interceptions and was named MVP of the SEC Championship game.
Georgia is excited about the prospects of freshmen cornerbacks Ellis Robinson and DeMello Jones, who both signed as members of the 2024 recruiting class. Georgia did sign five defensive backs in the 2025 recruiting class.
In total, Georgia has seen seven players enter the transfer portal thus far, as Humphrey was followed by wide receiver Michael Jackson, defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett, safety Justyn Rhett, outside linebacker Sam M’Pemba, inside linebacker Troy Bowles and safety Jake Pope.
The transfer portal officially opened on Dec. 9 and players will have until Dec. 28 to enter. Those playing in the College Football Playoff, like Georgia, will get an additional five days to enter the transfer portal following the conclusion of their season.
Georgia next plays in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
