Angel Reese set an early benchmark for her WNBA career on Wednesday night.
While the Chicago Sky fell 83-75 to the Connecticut Sun, Reese probably delivered the best performance of her rookie season. The No. 7 pick posted a career-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting.
Reese also grabbed 10 rebounds to secure her fourth consecutive double-double. The former LSU star is averaging 12.4 points and 9.6 rebounds in her first 11 professional games.
The WNBA posted some highlights from Reese’s outing:
The Sky played the scorching Sun close at Wintrust Arena, but no Chicago player besides Reese exceeded 10 points. Connecticut improved to 11-1 behind 20 points from Alyssa Thomas.
Reese also tallied two steals on Wednesday, increasing her season tally to 21. Only three players (Arike Ogunbowale, Rhyne Howard, and Napheesa Collier) had averaged more than Reese’s 1.9 per game entering the day.
One social media user noted that Reese leads all rookies in points, rebounds, steals, PER, win shares, and offensive rating this month. She was two points away from posting a double-double in each of June’s five matchups.
Reese is also asserting herself more on offense, attempting double-digit shots in the last four games after doing so twice in Chicago’s first seven bouts.
However, Reese’s early-season progress hasn’t resulted in consistent wins for her team. The Sky dipped to 4-7 with just one home victory in 2024.
Chicago can snap a two-game losing streak when facing the 1-12 Washington Mystics on Friday before opposing Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Sunday afternoon.
