No. 17 Baylor women hand rare home loss to No. 14 Kansas State
No. 17 Baylor extended its winning streak to nine and handed No. 14 Kansas State its first home loss of the season with a 79-62 win on Monday.
Baylor’s win sets it up for a massive clash with No. 10 TCU on Sunday with the Big 12 regular-season title up for grabs.
The Bears wasted no time getting started. Less than five minutes into the game, Baylor held a 10-2 lead thanks to senior Aaronette Vonleh. Vonleh scored the team’s first 10 points and had a season-high 24 points (10-of-15 FG) and 12 rebounds to lead the team.
Baylor had 34 of its points in the paint. Each of Vonleh’s 10 points to start the game were in the paint, including this bucket that put the Bears up 8-2.
Vonleh showed off her versatility with this block and finish on the other end to extend Baylor’s lead to 54-41 late in the third quarter.
Three-point shooting was a major factor as well. While Kansas State was only 2-of-15, Baylor hit 11 of its 28 shots from deep. Senior guard Sarah Andrews had the hot hand from behind the arc with 12 points (4-of-7 3PT).
This triple from Andrews with just over four minutes to play gave Baylor a comfortable 71-54 advantage.
