West Ham have made a decision on whether they will sign a striker on a free transfer following Niclas Fullkrug’s injury.
As a 31-year-old, you’ve got a lot to prove when you’ve been purchased for £30 million. While Niclas Fullkrug’s scoring record is superb in Germany, that doesn’t at all mean he will be able to replicate it in the Premier League.
Obviously, it’s much too early to decide whether or not he’s been worth the money, but he hasn’t started any free since moving to the London Stadium.
Unfortunately, this slow start won’t be helped by the fact that he has picked up an injury while on international duty. With it being an achilles injury, many had speculated that he would be out for a considerable while, meaning the Hammers may have turned to the free transfer market in order to find a replacement. However, Sean Whetstone has denied this, stating that the injury isn’t substantial.
“West Ham will NOT be looking for a striker in the free agent market as Niclas Fullkrug injury while on German International duty is minor and he is not expected to be out for that long,” he wrote on X.
This will be news to Julen Lopetegui’s ears who clearly has the striker as a big part of his plans. Hopefully Fullkrug can start finding his form after this small setback and match the impressive rate he scored goals in while he was in his home country.
