Colin Cowherd believes Nick Sirianni’s seat is burning hot amid an uneven start.
The Philadelphia Eagles fell to 2-2 following Sunday’s 33-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sirianni has now lost eight of his last 11 games dating back to last year’s late-season meltdown, which culminated in a first-round playoff exit to Tampa Bay.
Frustrated fans called for Sirianni’s job after Week 4, and Cowherd wouldn’t be shocked if the Eagles act soon. Noting past organizational impatience, the FS1 host pointed to Philadelphia firing Doug Pederson after earning the franchise’s only title and moving on from Chip Kelly after consecutive 10-6 seasons.
“It’s time to go get an adult coach who’s won, who’s proven, who’s a veteran,” Cowherd said on his show Tuesday. “And for the record, I could see Philadelphia moving off Sirianni in two weeks. Seriously, that’s what they do. They’ve moved off Super Bowl-winning coaches.”
Cowherd called the Eagles a “disaster” without former offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, now head coach for the Indianapolis Colts. He claimed Sirianni now looks “completely over his skis.”
Despite foreseeing a coaching change, Cowherd wondered if the front office would give a replacement more control.
“My question is this: Are they willing to hire a powerful coach?” Cowherd asked. “Cause that’s what it looks like you need to solve this mess.”
The Eagles currently rank 29th in total defense and have scored 52 points in three games after winning a Week 1 shootout over the Green Bay Packers. They got outgained 218 yards by Tampa Bay on Sunday.
Sirianni’s job security may receive enhanced scrutiny if the Eagles can’t beat the Cleveland Browns this Sunday.
