Connor Stalions Weighs In on Michigan Basketball NCAA Tournament Seeding Controversy
The Michigan Wolverines bookended a strong start and up-and-down middle of their 2024-2025 NCAA basketball season with an impressive three-game run in the Big Ten Tournament, knocking off NCAA Tournament teams Purdue, Maryland and Wisconsin en route to the championship.
The Wolverines’ win was followed up with a surprisingly low seed in the Big Dance as coach Dusty May’s team was given a five-seed despite a 25-9 overall record and a challenging schedule that included several Quad 1 victories.
On Monday, former Michigan football assistant coach Connor Stalions made his thoughts known on the seeding controversy, sending a message to the Wolverines basketball team about the realities of playing for all the marbles.
“Losers complain about circumstances (travel, turnaround, opponent, altitude, etc.),” Stalions wrote on X.
“Winners recover, watch film, and correct mistakes.”
The former Wolverines video analyst and former U.S. Marine Corps member had words of advice for the Michigan hoops squad in preparation for Thursday’s 10 p.m. tip-off against the UC San Diego Tritons in Denver, Colorado.
Many fans including Wolverine pages on X and Michigan alum Tracy Wolfson, a CBS Sports sideline reporter, took issue with Michigan’s five-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
“Who cares what the seed and the draw is,” Stalions wrote. “Every game is a one-game season. Leave it all on the court. Survive and advance.”
