Report: West Virginia’s Darian DeVries has emerged as a top candidate for IU job
West Virginia coach Darian DeVries is reportedly a top candidate to be the next IU basketball coach.
According to Jeff Goodman, the 49-year-old DeVries “has emerged as one of – if not the top candidate for the Indiana job.”
DeVries just completed his first season at West Virginia. The Mountaineers finished 19-13 and missed the 2025 NCAA tournament.
Prior to that, DeVries spent six seasons as the head coach at Drake, where he compiled a 150-55 record and reached the NCAA tournament three times. DeVries is 1-3 all-time in the NCAA tournament.
A native of Aplington, Iowa, DeVries was an assistant coach at Creighton from 2001 through 2018, working under Dana Altman and Greg McDermott.
Goodman’s report also indicated that Drake’s Ben McCollum and a third “mystery” candidate are in the mix for the IU position.
