Ohio State Announces Final Decision On Coach Jake Diebler

There’ll be plenty of Big Ten teams competing in the NCAA Tournament later this week. Ohio State won’t be one of them.

Ohio State finished the 2024-25 regular season with a 17-15 record. It was the first full year with Jake Diebler as the head coach of the Buckeyes. He was the interim coach for the program last season.

Although some fans were calling for a coaching change this offseason, Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork isn’t ready to move on from Diebler. He made that clear during an appearance on WOSU’s All Sides.

“Jake has done a great job of changing the culture, changing the mindset,” Bjork said, via Eleven Warriors. “How we operate the program is at a completely different level than the previous regime. Now we just have to get over the hump, and we need to be in the conversation, to be competing for Big Ten championships (and) obviously a strong run in the postseason.”

Bjork acknowledged that Ohio State has work to do this offseason in order to become a respectable team again in the Big Ten.

“We have work to do. We need to change the narrative in many aspects around the scope of the program. We’ve got to get our fans plugged in. So, disappointment is the word, but now we have to go to work. Jake is already going to work on building that roster and making sure that we’re in the competitive landscape in this new era of college athletics.”

If Diebler wants to have a long stint as the head coach of the Buckeyes, he’ll need to put an emphasis on roster construction. The team obviously won’t have success in the Big Ten if he’s unable to land marquee talent.

Ohio State fans, are you glad Diebler is sticking around for at least one more season?
