Trent Sisley remains firm with IU basketball commitment after hiring of Darian DeVries

It didn’t take long for new Indiana coach Darian DeVries to contact class of 2025 Montverde Academy (Fla.) forward Trent Sisley.

Less than an hour after DeVries was formally introduced as Indiana’s 31st head coach on Wednesday in Bloomington, he spoke with Sisley, the lone signee in the program’s 2025 recruiting class.

“He did call Trent like 20 minutes after the announcement,” Matt Sisley, Trent’s father, told Inside the Hall. “He knew who he was. I think (Scott) Dolson had talked to him about Trent. So he was fully aware of Trent being committed.

“I don’t really know what was said in that conversation, I just know that Trent was really happy that he called that quick. And then I talked to coach (DeVries) last night for about 20 minutes and kind of introduced myself, my wife.”

Matt Sisley and his wife, Heather, plan to travel to Bloomington next week to meet with DeVries. All signs point to Trent Sisley sticking with his commitment to the Hoosiers.

The elder Sisley said the family was already familiar with DeVries because their older son Blake Sisley competed against his Drake teams while at the University of Evansville.

“They were always hard as hell to play against,” Matt Sisley said.

According to the 247 Composite, Trent Sisley is ranked as the No. 76 player nationally in the 2025 class. He committed to Indiana and former coach Mike Woodson on September 23, 2024, and signed his National Letter of Intent on November 13, 2024.

Sisley is enjoying an outstanding senior season at Montverde Academy. He played three seasons at Heritage Hills, a class 3A program in Lincoln City, before transferring to Montverde for his final high school season.

According to MaxPreps.com, Sisley is averaging 10.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 18.5 minutes per game for the Eagles. He’s shooting 64 percent from the field and 47 percent on 3s.

Sisley’s development this season at Montverde Academy under Kevin Boyle, one of the top high school coaches in the country, should pay dividends when he arrives on campus.

“He can shoot the hell out of the ball. He’s shooting at such an amazing clip right now and that’s from the hours at Montverde,” Matt Sisley said. “They have practice for three hours and go in and get up 500 or 700 shots every night. He’s putting in time that I’ve never seen before.”

Matt Sisley said there will be an adjustment period for the family as it gets to know DeVries and his coaching staff, but added that relationships with athletic director Scott Dolson and president Pamela Whitten have been key through the process.

“This recruiting scenario was different from any other school,” Matt Sisley explained. “Scott Dolson was involved in our recruitment two or three years ago. And Pam Whitten even was involved. Every time we would come to campus, we would always run into them or they would go out of their way to say hello or sit down with us, like at Hoosier Hysteria.

“So we had a relationship with the AD and the school president. Scott was a huge bridge during this process of keeping us in the loop, calling us every other week and making sure that Trent stayed. Scott was amazing. I talked to him again last night and we’re going to meet with him next week when we go up there. He’s made himself available because he wants the culture at Indiana with Indiana kids and he knew Trent was a valuable piece. He was way above and beyond in the communication realm with us. It was awesome.”
