Bruce Pearl Provides Update on Auburn Star After Win Over Creighton

The Auburn Tigers secured an 82-70 victory over Creighton in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2019. However, the triumph was clouded by concern for forward Chad Baker-Mazara, who sustained an injury during the game.

Baker-Mazara took a hard fall in the second half while attempting a layup, landing awkwardly on his right hip. Despite the pain, he made both free throws before signaling to the bench. Diagnosed with a right hip bruise, he briefly returned to the game but was soon subbed out, spending the rest of the contest on the bench with ice on his injury.

After the game, Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl addressed the incident. “He’s a buck-75 soaking wet, and he’s got a bony (expletive),” Pearl remarked. “So, when he lands on the ground, ya know, BAM. It’s wood on bone. So, he probably got a pretty good bruise.” The lighthearted yet candid comment provided clarity on Baker-Mazara’s condition while showcasing Pearl’s distinctive style.

Pearl expressed optimism about the forward’s recovery, emphasizing the team’s resilience and ability to adapt. With Baker-Mazara being a key contributor this season, fans are hopeful for his swift return as Auburn prepares for its next challenge. The Tigers remain focused and determined, looking to build on their momentum in pursuit of tournament success.
