Oklahoma Sooners have two teams trying to ‘close the gap’ to secure a player OU has already had committed for 2026

Currently sitting with the 18th-best class in the country for 2026, the Florida State Seminoles are putting in work, and it’s showing, even after having a two-win season. They are one of the teams trying to steal away an Oklahoma Sooners commit.

Now, their recruiting is going down since the big-time season they had a few years ago, so that is certainly worth mentioning. In 2024, they had the 12th-best recruiting class in the country, according to On3. In 2025, they had the 20th best class, and their 2026 class is currently at 18th. But, it’s still early on that front.

They only have five four-star players, two three-stars, and a player who is labeled as “undisclosed” for their rating. The Sooners, on the other hand, have the 20th-best class, but that could fall if they lose a WR they have committed to FSU, a team that is strongly pursuing him. They currently have four players committed, so we could also certainly see their class improve drastically.

Other teams trying to ‘close the gap’ on four-star WR Daniel Odom

Daniel Odom, a four-star wide receiver from St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California, is part of the 2026 class. At 6’2” and 193 pounds, he ranks No. 33 nationally among wide receivers per 247Sports’ composite rankings. His speed, reliable hands, and playmaking ability have drawn significant attention from college recruiters.

In January 2025, Odom committed to the University of Oklahoma, selecting it over Texas and Oregon after narrowing his choices to six schools, including Miami, Tennessee, and Washington. Despite his commitment, he has scheduled official visits to Florida State and Washington, indicating he may still be considering other options. One of the stronger ones he’s considering is FSU and Washington, who seem to be pushing hard for the WR that it feels like everyone wants.

At St. John Bosco, Odom has performed well against strong competition. His size and skills make him a highly touted wide receiver, but his recruitment remains uncertain as he approaches his senior year.

“I’m opening my eyes to everybody because there are great opportunities,” Odom told Rivals.

The Sooners need a player like that in their 2026 class, so they really have to try and convince him not to flip when National Signing Day approaches. There is still a lot of time, fortunately. One thing they do have going for them is that Oklahoma is significantly closer to California than Florida is.
