Key Penn State Defender on Future Plans: ‘We’re Trying to Win The National Championship’
It’s the time of year when college football players are asked about their future plans, and a key Penn State defender was asked about his.
CB Jalen Kimber knows he doesn’t have a ton of time to decide, but right now, his focus is on helping Penn State reach its ultimate goal.
Kimber said over the spring that his one of his goals was to play well enough to where he could be drafted after five years.
This season has been Year 5 overall for the 6-foot, 184 pounder, but only the first at Penn State.
Will it be the last? We don’t know yet.
WHAT KIMBER SAID
“No, I haven’t made a final decision. I’ve definitely thought about it, because time is winding down,” Kimber told reports Sunday afternoon. “But I haven’t made a final decision. It’s just something that, right now, I’m not extremely focused on because we’re trying to win the national championship. We’re trying to go 1-0 each week. That’s something that, after the season’s over, I’ll sit down with my family and talk about and weigh all my options and try to make the best decision for me. So it’s not something that, I’m not going to say it’s not important, but right now, it’s not extremely important to me, because I’m just trying to go out with a bang.”
KIMBER’S IMPACT
Kimber was one of Penn State’s most active players this season, playing 658 snaps (good for sixth on the team). If he returns, that will give Penn State two staples at corner next season, with A.J. Harris set to come back. Kimber is one of Penn State’s best tacklers, with Pro Football Focus giving him a grade of 87.6.
No. 6 Penn State takes on No. 7 Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl/College Football Playoff semifinal Thursday, Jan. 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 on ESPN.
