‘The Man Above Put Us in This Position’: OU Basketball Player on Win Over Iowa
After the Oklahoma Sooners won a decisive victory over Iowa to cement a Sweet 16 berth, star players Sahara Williams and Skylar Vann took a moment to share their immense gratitude to God for where they are.
During a postgame press conference, Vann was asked about how she felt about her big win and the immense meaning behind this game.
“The man above,” she said. “That was our main focus today … just kind of give it all to him… So I can’t really thank anybody but him.”
Earlier in the press conference, Williams shared the same sentiments about their NCAA Tournament win.
“I’m grateful that the man above put us in this position to be able to do what we have done today,” Williams said. “Because we’ve been on the other side of the coin, and it’s not a fun feeling… Today you can’t take for granted.”
But the players are also grateful to each other for all the work they put in. Vann took time to point out what a hard worker Williams has been.
“Nobody sees … the work we put in…” Vann said. “She’s (Willams’) worked her butt off to get us to this point.”
The two players also thanked Sooner Nation fans for showing out to the game in such big numbers.
“Sooner nation came out and we could not thank them more…” Vann said. “Jennie promised that our first year that we’re gonna get this crowd going. And my senior year we did. And I couldn’t thank Sooner nation more. They helped us no doubt get that win today.”
Williams agreed.
“I think they definitely helped us carry that energy through all 40 minutes,” Williams said. “They showed out. I don’t think you can put it in any better words. We really needed that. And I thought we played for them and we played for each other.”
