Former Texas HC Rodney Terry exits with a classy statement
Rodney Terry has spent a ton of time devoted to building up the Texas Longhorns’ basketball program.
Unfortunately, what he’s done, specifically as head coach, hasn’t been enough. Terry just finished his second full season as head coach of the Longhorns — he was the interim head coach in 2022-23 — with an 86-80 loss to Xavier in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament.
That loss and early March Madness exit, combined with a 19-16 record this season at Texas, was enough to get Terry fired.
Not long after, the coach who beat him, Xavier’s Sean Miller, was named Texas’ new head coach. Talk about adding insult to injury.
That would have made many bitter —and perhaps Terry is stinging from the news — but he didn’t let it show in a post he made on social media thanking the Longhorns for everything they gave him during his time with the team.
Though Terry’s latest stint at Texas was just three seasons, he was an assistant coach for the Longhorns from 2002-11, so he had been a Longhorn for much of his career.
