Auburn Makes Major Johni Broome Announcement Before Sweet 16

In a thrilling announcement for Auburn Tigers fans, senior forward/center Johni Broome has been named a finalist for the prestigious Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year Award.

The Naismith Award, named after basketball’s inventor James Naismith, honors the top collegiate player annually. The selection process narrows down to four finalists in March, with the winner being determined in April based on various factors.

The Auburn Basketball official X account revealed the news on Tuesday, sharing a striking graphic of Broome in action. The image captures Broome mid-shot, donning his No. 4 Tigers jersey, with the Naismith finalist banner prominently displayed above.

Broome’s rise to stardom has been nothing short of remarkable. His journey from Morehead State to being recognized as one of college basketball’s most elite players on a juggernaut is no small feat.

Broome has consistently delivered on both ends of the court, ending the year with averages of 18.4 (PPG), 10.7 (TRB), 3.0 (AST), 2.2 (BLK), 0.8 (STL) and just under 30 minutes played (MP) per game. His tremendous play has made him a cornerstone for the Tigers’ success throughout the season.

As the Tigers continue their 2025 March Madness campaign, Broome’s finalist nod adds another chapter to the program’s storied basketball legacy, fueling excitement for a potential Naismith Trophy win.

Look for Bruce Pearl and his group to feed off of Broome being named a Naismith finalist and come out with infectious energy in their Sweet 16 matchup with the Michigan Wolverines. A special performance from Broome could help strengthen his case for winning the award.
