BREAKING: Another Alabama Player Transfers to Play for Former Nick Saban Assistant
Former Alabama Crimson Tide players continue to find new homes in the transfer portal and that includes a tight end heading to Beantown.
Ty Lockwood announced on Tuesday that he has committed to Boston College. Lockwood will join quarterback Dylan Lonergan as ex-Tiders heading to the ACC program next season, where they will be under the tutelage of head coach and former Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.
The Thompson’s Station, TN, product was a coveted four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class and signed with Alabama over offers from the likes of Ohio State and Auburn. However, his impact in Tuscaloosa was minuscule through two years as a lone five-yard reception against Mercer this past season was his only registered catch with the Crimson Tide.
He’d enter the transfer portal following the team’s 19-13 loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl last week and had a number of programs like LSU, Missouri, and Pitt interested in his services. However, he’d ultimately decide to take his talents to Chestnut Hill, MA, and join BC.
At 6-foot-5, 239 pounds, Lockwood certainly has the size to be a productive tight end, but needed to be in a place where he could make an actual impact. Boston College may serve as just the right fit considering his familiarity with the aforementioned Lonergan. Considering that he has three years of collegiate eligibility remaining, he’ll be in a situation where he’ll have plenty of time to learn and grow under a former NFL head coach in O’Brien.
