Former Texas Star Addresses Notion That He’s a ‘Selfish Diva’

Isaiah Bond, the former Texas Longhorns wide receiver, has been no stranger to criticism during his career, with some people unfairly tagging him as a “selfish diva.” But during a heartfelt appearance on the “Nightcap” podcast with Shannon Sharpe and Chad (Ochocinco) Johnson, Bond didn’t hold back as he cleared the air.

“This season I did suffer a high ankle sprain, grade 3, and when others told me to sit it out and shut it down, I chose to stay and fight with my teammates and try to win a national championship,” Bond explained. His choice to play through such a serious injury wasn’t about personal glory, it was about loyalty and showing up for the team he loves. Actions like that don’t exactly scream “selfish.”

Bond’s numbers back up his value on the field, too. In 2024, he notched 34 receptions, racked up 540 yards, and scored five touchdowns, all while averaging an impressive 15.9 yards per catch. Across his college career, he recorded 99 receptions for 1,428 yards and 10 touchdowns. Those stats highlight not just his talent but also his consistency and work ethic.

The podcast gave Bond a chance to push back against the labels that have dogged him, and he took it with grace and conviction. By showing his dedication to his teammates and love for the game, he’s proving to fans, and critics, that there’s much more to his story than a misguided narrative.
