Where the Wisconsin Badgers’ basketball 2025 transfer class ranks so far

After a busy week in which Greg Gard and the Badgers brought in two new transfers, Wisconsin has the makings of a new, talented roster for 2025. At the conclusion of the season, six seniors, including John Tonje, departed the program along with four transfers including freshman Daniel Freitag. There’s a ton of production to replace and Wisconsin has been, and will continue to be, busy in the portal. So how do they stack up so far?

The Badgers have landed Portland’s Austin Rapp and Virginia’s Andrew Rohde so far through the portal. Rapp is a stretch four who can light it up from deep, while Rohde is a wing who can facilitate and play strong defense. It’s a good start for Gard, who likely isn’t done, and the national rankings tend to agree.

On3 Sports Tranfer Ranking

On3’s transfer ranking takes into account the roster as a whole by comparing the talent coming in, to the talent lost through the portal. According to the site, the Badgers are the fourth-highest ranked team in the country. While Wisconsin has lost several players to the portal, none figured to get much playing time, whereas the duo they have brought in so far projects to get significant minutes as potential starters.

247Sports Transfer Ranking

247 only takes into account the players being brought in, but still holds the Badgers’ transfer class so far in high regards. They ranked Wisconsin 26th in the nation in the early stages of the transfer portal. The rank will undoubtedly rise even higher as Gard continues to add players, as most expect he will.

So are Rapp and Rohde better than Steven Crowl and Max Klesmit? Maybe, but it’s impossible to know. But they are solid and well-regarded players who fit the Wisconsin culture and play-style, which is just as valuable as pure talent.

Ultimately, the rankings are interesting to look at and provide some fun. After all, last year the Badgers’ transfer class was ranked 54th, and ended up with one of the top players in the entire country.
