While the Montreal Canadiens’ rookie development camp is currently underway, we are getting to know our new prospects more and more.
Among these new prospects catching attention this week is the 6-foot-5 forward Tyler Thorpe, acquired by Kent Hughes a few days ago.
Following the selections of Ivan Demidov, Michael Hage, and Aatos Koivu, the Canadiens’ management indeed set their sights on this intriguing giant-sized forward.
Tyler Thorpe draws attention with the Canadiens, for the right reasons
After his selection:
«With the 130th overall pick, the Canadiens select forward Tyler Thorpe from the Vancouver Giants.» – Montreal Canadiens
Thorpe immediately traveled to Montreal to participate in this week’s development camp.
«Tyler Thorpe, a HUGE 6-foot-5, 216-pound right winger who played with Vancouver in the WHL.
Mobile for his size. Has grown significantly over the past two years.
44 points in 51 games.» – Anthony Martineau, TVA Sports
His development curve is very interesting, so he will definitely be a name to watch closely over the next few months and years.
«A towering winger with an NHL shot, moments of ‘high-level creativity,’ and defensive reliability, but skating and playmaking skills still need development.» – Via Eliteprospects
We are eager to see what kind of player he will become in the coming years, but it will likely take a good dose of patience before fully discovering his potential.
Thorpe, 18 years old, 6-foot-5, and 215 pounds, nearly averaged a point per game this season in the WHL (44 points in 51 games). He added 30 penalty minutes to his record.
