Warriors might cut ties with star-studded $62 million guard via trade to Hornets

While it’s doubtful, the Golden State Warriors could shake up the NBA with a late blockbuster deal.

If he demands a trade, the franchise may send a two-time MVP to the Charlotte Hornets.

“A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, (Stephen) Curry once said that the Hornets were the only team he’d consider playing for, besides the Warriors,” Heavy’s Sai Mohan wrote last Wednesday.

“I’ve always said I wanted to finish my career at Golden State because of how much it means and the experiences and teammates and the journey we’ve been on,” Curry said after receiving the key to the city of Charlotte in September 2022.

“Everybody asks me, ‘You wanna play one year for the Hornets and come back?’ I am not breaking any news right now, I’m not making any promises. All I would say is if there was a team that I did want to play for that was not named the Warriors, that (the Hornets) would be it.”

“As such, (Kevin) O’Connor proposed a trade (sending Curry, Kevon Looney, and Lindy Waters to the Hornets for Miles Bridges, Grant Williams, Josh Green, four first-round picks and two pick swaps).”

Curry may not be ready to leave the Bay after spending his entire career with the Warriors, but his loyalty will only create more stress in Year 16.

Curry, a dynamic shot creator and ball handler with four championships, has done his part this season.

The future Hall of Fame point guard averages 22.3 points and 6.4 assists on 44.3% field goal shooting and 40.3% three-point shooting in 37 contests.

Still, Golden State’s lack of star power outside of Curry has resulted in a lousy 22-23 start to the year.

Will Curry stick it out with the organization that drafted him in 2009?

Most likely, but considering Curry’s father, Dell, played for the Hornets for most of his career and Curry is from the area, there’s no shame in imagining the 10-time All-Star suiting up for Charlotte.
