Ohio State addresses a need from the transfer portal ahead of matchup vs. Oregon
Ohio State has a mixed focus this time of year between their path to a National Championship and working through the transfer portal.
The Buckeyes made two additions from the portal to start the week. Running back CJ Henderson Jr. made it known he was going to be a Buckeye, a transfer from West Virginia who rushed for over 2,000 yards in three seasons.
Ohio State now has an addition on the defensive side of the ball too. FCS pass rusher Logan George announced his commitment to the Buckeyes. The former Idaho State standout recently took a visit to Columbus.
Overall, George becomes the third commitment from the transfer portal with offensive tackle Phillip Daniels joining these two. Expect Ohio State to take eight or more players from the portal this cycle.
George made 12 starts for Idaho State this season and recorded 57 tackles (19.5 for loss) and 6.5 sacks. The transfer made 31 tackles as a freshman and will have two years of eligibility remaining. George is listed at 6-foot-5 and 259 pounds.
The Buckeyes landed George over Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Missouri, and Wisconsin. It fills a need of depth that the Buckeyes have off the edge behind this season. Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau will both be drafted in April. Mitchell Melton is a senior as well and the Buckeyes may even make another addition at the position.
Caden Curry and Kenyatta Jackson Jr. are both third-year players who figure to be up for starter roles for the Buckeyes next season. George will potentially compete with both of them for a spot, or fill in as the needed depth.
Ohio State is off to a good start in the portal and they’re playing well on the field. Two things they hope they can continue through the month of January.
