College football analyst is spot on that Ohio State has a player awaiting to be a breakout star in 2025

Ohio State recently extended Ryan Day following the National Championship win. It was a due extension for Day, who has taken the next step with the Buckeyes.

One area that Day has had a lot of success in is developing quarterbacks. The Buckeyes have consistently had an above-average quarterback under Day and even before that with Urban Meyer.

Next up to take the keys for the most important position in football in Columbus is another player who could be a star. Former five-star Alabama recruit Julian Sayin may not be a household name, but he soon will be. The job is not officially Sayin’s, though he is next up in line and all signs point toward him being the guy.

Sayin was included in a list of 10 players who have breakout potential in 2025 by On3 and that is spot on. Sayin has elite arm talent and should be a very successful player for the Buckeyes once he gets his legs under him.

“The former five-star prospect initially signed with Alabama out of high school, but he left Tuscaloosa shortly after Saban moved on and wound up in Columbus. Now he has a chance to lock up one of the most coveted spots in college football — Ohio State’s starting quarterback — and you know whoever is in that position has a chance to do be one of the faces of the sport.” — Ari Wasserman, On3

Sayin was the No. 1 quarterback recruit in the class of 2024 and was an Elite 11 winner. He only ended up at Ohio State because he entered the transfer portal right before his freshman season. Ohio State recruited Sayin out of California in high school, but could not initially land him.

Ohio State will have a plethora of stars around Sayin to help him succeed. Jeremiah Smith is the best wide receiver in the country and Carnell Tate is a great second option. Ohio State added top tight end transfer Max Klare, who should have a big role in the offense too. The Buckeyes will operate with a rushing attack of James Peoples and C.J. Donaldson.

If you follow recruiting, you are well aware of the household name that Sayin was over the last few years. The rest of college football will wake up to his name in the fall.
