Notre Dame football takes two big steps toward reshaping front office

The Notre Dame football team isn’t messing around when it comes to putting its ‘front-office’ together.

When Chad Bowden left the Notre Dame football program, Plan A to replace him fell through but Plan B is a heck of a big swing that could end up better than its first ideas.

Rather than replacing Bowden with one man, it looks like the Irish are reshaping its recruiting and front office approach once again. While Marcus Freeman is busy making sure he does have a general manager, he’s also making another big hire for behind the scenes work. It’s clear that he’s not willing to let the grass grow under his feet during a period of time when the Golden Domers are poised to make several runs at the National Championship game.

On Friday morning, the Notre Dame football team sent a special Valentine’s Day card to Detroit Lions director of scouting advancement Mike Martin. The Irish have choo-choo-chosen him to replace Bowden, but they aren’t stopping with the well-respected NFL exec. According to Pete Nakos of On3, the Blue and Gold are also going after Auburn recruiting staffer Kenyatta Watson.

It’s not clear what exactly Watson’s role will be with the Fighting Irish, but it is known that he’s one of the up and coming SEC staffers when it comes to scouting and recruiting.

Martin on the other hand, will take on Bowden’s role after being part of the Lions’ front office that reshaped that franchise when Dan Campbell arrived.

The Notre Dame football team is taking an NFL approach to its front office and in the process, staying ahead of the game in the best way it can, while still having requirements that no other Power-level conference program does.
