Arkansas distance runner Paityn Noe sets 3,000 program record on Day 1 of Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas distance runner Paityn Noe set a program record in the women’s 3,000 meters on the first day of the 25th Tyson Invitational at Randal Tyson Track Center.

Noe clocked a time of 8 minutes, 47.17 seconds to best the previous record of 8:52.57 set by Dominique Scott in 2015.

The redshirt freshman from Huxley, Iowa, finished 12.41 seconds ahead of Arizona State’s Judy Chepkoech in second place.

“That’s pretty awesome,” Noe said when she discovered her time was a program record. “Coming in tonight I was just really excited. I haven’t raced the 3K in a really long time since I missed indoor last season. It’s been since high school.

“I was just super excited to get out and see what I can do.
