ESPN Bracketology Predicts Bad News for Tennessee Basketball in March Madness
The Tennessee Volunteers college basketball program could be trending in the wrong direction, at least if the latest ESPN bracketology projections for the NCAA Tournament are any indication. Tennessee had widely been projected as a No. 1 seed for March Madness.
Yet, the Vols’ 75-64 loss to the Kentucky Wildcats on Tuesday could hurt Tennessee’s chances of landing a top seed. The good news is Tennessee still has plenty of opportunities to bolster the program’s resume even more.
The Vols have upcoming matchups against ranked opponents like the No. 8 Texas A&M Aggies, No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide and No. 19 Ole Miss Rebels.
As of Friday, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has Tennessee dropping to the No. 2 seed in the East Region where the Vols are projected to face the No. 15 Towson Tigers. If victorious, Tennessee would face the winner of the No. 7 Louisville Cardinals and No. 10 West Virginia Mountaineers in the bracket projections.
Tennessee has an opportunity to win the SEC Tournament which could push the Vols back to the top line. CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm also has Tennessee as the No. 2 seed in the East with the same projected matchup against Towson.
Tennessee will have plenty of company from the team’s conference foes when March Madness begins. Lunardi projects a massive 14 SEC teams will make the NCAA Tournament.
