The Kentucky Wildcats were seeking revenge on the Vanderbilt Commodores. In late January at Vandy’s Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, the Commodores had beaten Big Blue Nation, 74-69.
That was a big loss for Mark Pope’s Wildcats at the time, but they avenged themselves for that one on Wednesday night…in a big way.
It was close in the first half, but Kentucky jumped out to a 6-0 run in the second half and then later boasted a 9-0 scoring run. The end result was an 82-61 blowout in favor of the No. 17 Wildcats at Rupp Arena.
It was a good win for Kentucky, but it’s more than notable because junior guard Otega Oweh had another great night.
Oweh notched 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal in 32 minutes of game action. It marked his 26th game this season scoring in double figures, meaning he’s scored double figures in every one of Kentucky’s games so far.
The Wildcats were also aided by 17 points from senior center Amari Williams and nine points from senior forward Ansley Almonor off the bench.
Kentucky is now 18-8 and 7-6 in SEC play. Up next is a clash with No. 4 Alabama on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.
