BYU basketball broke several records in their big win against Kansas

BYU Basketball is red hot. This was evident in the February 18th game against the Kansas Jayhawks, which BYU won by 34 at the Marriot Center. BYU had their way all night and handed Kansas their biggest loss of the Billy Self era. There were a few other records broken last night. Let’s take a deep dive into each one.
BYU gave Billy Self his worst loss as a Jayhawk, pounding Kansas and hitting three after three. BYU never trailed in that game and quickly built a big lead. Kansas is not used to big deficits, and the Cougars led by as much as 38.
BYU also handed KU their third-worst loss and worst one in the AP Poll era, which started in 1948. BYU was quick from the start, and Kansas didn’t have an answer. Kansas hasn’t had this bad of a loss since December 23rd, 1974, when they lost to Kentucky by 37. Kansas has not been stomped on that often, and they will need to prove themselves soon.

BYU also secured their largest margin of victory in their Big 12 history. The Cougars looked like a bubble team, but after obliterating KU, they look like a real contender. If BYU can beat a top team by 34, then they are looking really good. It was also the first time BYU had beaten the #23 team in the nation.
It was a sold-out Marriot Center, and the ROC was in full force. Kansas only shot five free throws and made just two of them. Kansas shot only 36.5% from two and 28.1% from three. BYU outrebounded Kansas 43-33 and led the entire game.
Richie Saunders led all scorers with 22 points, while Keba Keita added two blocks. Dallin Hall led the assist category with eight, and Trevin Knell brought in eight rebounds. BYU shot 51.5% from the field and 38.9% from three. BYU forced 15 turnovers and scored 15 points off of them.
BYU played a great game against Kansas, dominating from the start. BYU will need to stay hot and not let up. BYU has a chance this year, and it is all about team basketball.
