No. 15 Kentucky women set multiple records in blowout win

No. 15 Kentucky played its final home game of the season on Thursday night and set multiple records in the process in an 82-58 rout of No. 11 Tennessee.

The 24-point win was the largest margin of victory against Tennessee in series history, surpassing the Wildcats’ 21-point win in the 2020 SEC Tournament.

Kentucky led by as many as 35 in a dominant performance from the beginning. As impressive as the margin of victory was, Kentucky set three other records during the game as well.

Coming into Thursday, Kentucky had 180 blocks with an average of 6.9 blocks per game, which was second in the country. The Wildcats reached 182 blocks on Thursday night, which set a record for the most blocks in a single season in program history.

Sophomore Clara Strack added three more blocks to her season total, bringing her to a program single-season record 67 blocks this season. This jumper late in the fourth quarter gave Strack 23 points (11-of-11 FG) and capped a historic night for the center.

The 11-of-11 night from the field is a school record for single-game field goal percentage (min. 10 attempts).

Four of Kentucky’s starters scored in double-figures. Along with Strack, senior Georgia Amoore and junior Teonni Key had 18 points apiece while senior Dazia Lawrence had 13.

An encouraging sign for Kentucky was its 52-31 rebounding advantage. The Wildcats have struggled in that area throughout the season, so Thursday was a positive sign for the Wildcats.

Kentucky (22-5, 11-4 SEC) is currently the fourth seed in the SEC, which puts it in position to earn a double-bye in the SEC Tournament. With one game remaining against No. 6 South Carolina on Sunday, the Wildcats will look to carry Thursday night’s record-setting performance forward and make some more noise.

If the Wildcats rebound like they did against the Lady Vols, they could go on a long run in March and continue what has been a remarkable turnaround season under head coach Kenny Brooks.
