Arkansas gymnastics scores season high in loss to Alabama at Bud Walton Arena

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas gymnastics scored a season high at Bud Walton Arena on Friday in a 197.65-197.425 loss to Alabama.

Entering the meet, just 0.025 separated the 16th-ranked Razorbacks and 17th-ranked Crimson Tide in National Qualifying Score. With its score Friday, Arkansas improved its NQS — calculated by taking the top three home and away scores, dropping the top overall and averaging the remaining five — to 196.79.

Alabama’s, however, rose to 196.94, which will put the Tide (4-6, 1-6 SEC) above the Razorbacks (7-7, 2-4) in the updated rankings.

The positioning is crucial for both teams’ SEC championship hopes, as Arkansas entered Friday ranked No. 8 in the conference and Alabama No. 9. The top eight teams will make the championship, with one team left out.
