Auburn-Kentucky college basketball broadcast cut for Penguins-Bruins hockey game
Auburn was destroying Kentucky at the Rupp Arena on Saturday when all of a sudden during the second half, the broadcast dropped. The No. 1-No. 17 college basketball matchup never returned to the airwaves as Saturday Down South’s Paul Harvey.
“With the game in the middle of the action, the broadcast feed of the game suddenly cut out and remained out for an extended period of time. ESPN and ABC have acknowledged the technical difficulties, but it remains to be seen if the game feed will return before the contest concludes,” Harvey wrote.
The broadcast never did come back, though. Instead, ESPN on ABC switched to the Boston Bruins-Pittsburgh Penguins.
As 247 Sports’ Christian Clemente noted after the game, there actually was a technical issue. And no, it wasn’t caused by Miles Kelly’s 9/14 shooting night.
“A fire at the generator apparently caused the TV issues,” Clemente wrote.
“Are you sure the fire wasn’t just Miles Kelly.”
Ultimately, the score didn’t change much from when the feed cut out until the final buzzer. Auburn held onto a double-digit lead and won 94-78. It was AU’s first win in Lexington since 1988.
With the win, the Tigers move closer to clinching the SEC regular season championship, and with it, a No. 1 seed during March Madness regardless of what happens in the SEC Tournament.
After a disappointing finish to the 2024 NCAA Tournament, Bruce Pearl has gotten maximum motivation from his two-loss juggernaut. As the tourney approaches, talk of this being one of the greatest teams the sport has ever seen will intensify.
Too bad fans didn’t get to experience one of the program’s most significant wins in the season in its entirety.
