Alabama’s Heartbreaking Loss Keeps Them Just Outside the No. 1 Seed

The Alabama Crimson Tide have had an impressive 2024-25 basketball season, and enter a tough stretch of games as we near the NCAA Tournament.

Heartbreakingly losing to Tennessee last night sets up the first of three top-five matchups to finish the season. With games against Florida and Auburn to wrap up the regular season, Alabama has its hands full.

ESPN’s college basketball analyst Joe Lunardi released his newest Bracketology rankings with a wild Saturday in college hoops. After yesterday’s events, he has Alabama as the No. 5 overall seed just outside of the four number one seeds.

Since February 1, Alabama has a record of 5-3, with losses to No. 1 Auburn, No. 15 Missouri, and now No. 5 Tennessee. The SEC has been undoubtedly the best conference in college basketball this season with eight teams in the top 25, so losing a couple of games here and there to top teams is not surprising or anything to worry about.

The next two weeks for the Tide are going to be monumental in determining the seeding for the NCAA Tournament. If they can manage to win one of their last two against Auburn or Florida, and win the SEC Tournament, there is a good chance of them claiming one of the final No. 1 seeds in this year’s big dance.

Senior night versus the Florida Gators (currently #6 overall in Lunardi’s Bracketology) would be a good win to add to their resume in hopes to steal a #1 seed in March.

The Crimson Tide will finish their season at Auburn on Saturday, March 8th, and due to seeding, will likely begin SEC Tournament play on Wednesday, March 14th.
