Clemson basketball achieves highest AP Top 25 ranking since 2017-18
Picked to finish fourth in the preseason ACC poll, Clemson basketball has exceeded all expectations this season, and then some.
Sitting at 24-5 on the season, the Tigers are tied for second place in the ACC with a 16-2 record, knotted up with Louisville and one game behind Duke. The only team to beat first-place Duke in the ACC this season? That’s right, it was the Tigers.
Brad Brownell is having his best season as the Tigers’ head coach and it’s one of the best in school history as their 24 wins is tied for the most in a single season at Clemson since 2017-18 when it won 25 games. Oh, and there are two winnable regular-season games left, an ACC Tournament, and also an NCAA Tournament to add to that win total. Three more wins breaks the single-season wins record for Clemson.
What else happened back in 2017-18 that’s happening for the first time since this year? Clemson jumped all the way to No. 11 in the AP Top 25 that season which was the Tigers’ highest rank since 2008-09.
Well, as of Monday afternoon, Clemson has reached its highest position in the AP Top 25 since 2017-18 and it has a chance to jump in the top 10 for the first time since that 2008-09 season.
Clemson picked up a comfortable win over Virginia on Saturday to earn win No. 24 and maintain its spot in second place in the ACC standings.
There’s still a chance the Tigers can win a share of the conference title with a Duke loss to North Carolina in Chapel Hill this weekend and a 2-0 week from Clemson.
