ESPN Reveals If Gunner Stockton Will Be Starting QB For Georgia In 2025

The elbow injury to Carson Beck allowed the Georgia Bulldogs to take stock of what they had in quarterback Gunner Stockton. He held down the fort in UGA’s win in the SEC championship game against the Texas Longhorns. He then held his own in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, going toe-to-toe with the No. 7 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal.

ESPN predicted the starting quarterbacks for every Power 4 program in college football next season, and they believe Stockton will return as Georgia’s lead signal-caller in 2025.

Beck initially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft but ultimately decided to transfer to the Miami Hurricanes earlier this month.

The Bulldogs reportedly pursued QB Fernando Mendoza in the transfer portal this offseason, but he committed to the Indiana Hoosiers.

Georgia’s remaining scholarship quarterbacks, Ryan Puglisi, Hezekiah Millender and Ryan Montgomery, have no experience. That said, Stockton doesn’t have much either. ESPN left open the possibility that the Bulldogs could pursue a transfer portal option to at least compete with Stockton this offseason.

Against Notre Dame, Stockton completed 20-of-32 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown. Last season, in limited playing time, he went 12 for 19, passing for 148 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Stockton, a former four-star recruit from the 2022 class, is from Tiger, Georgia, a small town 90 minutes from Athens. He committed to the Bulldogs over offers from Alabama, LSU, Missouri, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon and others.
