Where the Florida Gators Landed in the Latest AP Poll
Following a rollercoaster of a week that saw them lose to an unranked squad before taking down a fellow top 25 team four days later, the Florida Gators narrowly stayed put in the top five of the latest AP Poll.
The Gators dropped two spots in this week’s rankings, as they fell from No. 3 to No. 5. Florida was leapfrogged by Houston and Tennessee, respectively, as the latter squad came away with a thrilling win over now-No. 7 Alabama on Saturday.
After being slated as a potential one-seed in the NCAA Tournament in recent weeks, Florida suffered a stunning loss on the road to Georgia on Feb. 25. The Gators trailed by as many as 26 points against the Bulldogs before pulling off a second-half comeback — only for UGA to immediately respond with a game-clinching 8-0 run in the final minute.
The following Saturday, Florida came roaring back to take down the then-No. 12 Texas A&M Aggies in dominant fashion. UF took care of business in front of its home crowd, coming away with an 89-70 victory against a TAMU team that dropped 10 spots in this week’s poll.
ESPN’s latest Bracketology prediction has Florida slated as a two-seed in the NCAA West Region. Nevertheless, the Gators may still be able to slide back into one-seed contention as they enter the final week of their regular season.
UF will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the No. 7 Crimson Tide this Wednesday. After that, the Gators will conclude their regular season at home the following Saturday against the Ole Miss Rebels.
