Jahmai Mashack dedicating game-winner over Bama to his parents is heartwarming

Love this from Mashack!

If you’re in Knoxville and you see Jahmai Mashack around campus today, be sure to give him a fist bump. He’s earned it! The city is still buzzing after Mashack came up with the shot of the year for the No. 5 Tennessee basketball team.

Saturday’s buzzer-beat against No. 6 Alabama was downright unreal, as Mashack helped power the Vols to a win that could lead to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Mashack stepped up for his team and it’s a moment he’ll never forget.

The massive shot was only made better thanks to his parents being in town to witness things live. Right after the game, Mashack met up with his folks and it was beyond emotional. He shared that his mom was in tears and his dad couldn’t have been happier for him. Talk about an incredible experience for the entire family:

Jahmai Mashack’s parents were able to see his buzzer-beater vs. Alabama live

“Man, mom was in tears, my dad was ecstatic, you know joyous,” Mashack said. “My family was texting me and calling. It was just such a great feeling seeing them proud. I always tell people all the time that I don’t do this just for me, I do this for them and there’s no better feeling than seeing your parents proud of you and seeing your parents really feel like everything they’ve done for you is worth it.”

Anyone else getting a bit emotional due to those words from Mashack? This shows how close he is with his parents and he has wanted nothing more than to make them proud. It’s safe to say he’s done that, as he has been a joy to watch for the Vols throughout his career.

He may not be known across the country as being a superstar, but he’s always putting in the extra work for head coach Rick Barnes whenever he’s on the hardwood. Mashack is also a tremendous defender, which was on display against the Crimson Tide in the thrilling win.

It looks like Mr. and Mrs. Mashack picked a great game to watch in person too, right? Imagine making the trip from California to Tennessee and they now have a story that they can tell everyone with a huge smile on their faces. Yeah, Jahmai hit a buzzer-beater against Alabama with countless people watching on ESPN. No big deal. Oh, but it was, as his moment was one for the ages.
