Double doubles earn Travon Brazile Razorbacker of the Week to close SEC regular season

Arkansas Razorback senior forward Trevon Brazile must be hoping what began in Nashville returns to the Music City when the 2025 Southeastern Conference Tournament tips off at noon Wednesday. That’s because just a week before, the Razorback’s lone returning player from 2024 had a breakout double-double performance on March 4 in Vanderbilt’s Memorial Gymnasium and followed it up with an encore on Saturday in Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville to close out the SEC regular season.
Razorbacker of the Week
Brazile, who warranted a try-out at last year’s NBA scouting combine has underwhelmed until a week ago under first-year Razorback coach John Calipari, had a breakout 16-point and 14-rebound performance in Arkansas’ 90-77 win at Vanderbilt. He followed that up with an 11-and-11 double double in Saturday’s 93-92 SEC regular season finale win over Mississippi State to earn Razorbacker of the Week honors.
“He been playing good. You know, he been playing great,” said Razorback point guard D.J. Wagner on Saturday. “It’s like every time (he) gets in the game, you know, coach said all the time. Every time he get in the game, we make a run.
“We start getting stops and stuff like that. So, you know, he been playing great. He brings a lot of energy to the team. You know, he’s a great player. He’s always going to make a good play or I feel like he helps elevate all of us as well.”
Brazile certainly has elevated his play when the Razorbacks needed him most. After learning that the team’s leading rebounder and scorer, Adou Thiero, could be lost for the season due to suffering a knee injury in Arkansas’ home win over Missouri, Brazile, who has had to overcome a season-ending knee injury of his own, reverted back to the high-flying, three-point shot making, NBA scout eye-catching form he displayed prior to his injury.
“TB, the battle he has is with himself,” Calipari said Saturday. “Not with me, not with the team, not an opponent.
“And I’m so proud of him because he’s been through a lot now. Even before I got here, he’s been through a ton, and he’s responded, and he’s done it with a smile.”
