Arkansas Razorbacks’ Wehiwa Aloy Earns SEC Player of the Week Honors Again
For the second time this season, Arkansas infielder Wehiwa Aloy has been named the SEC Player of the Week. The talented junior shortstop continues to impress on the field, earning his latest accolade after a dominant five-game stretch against ULM and Portland.
Dominating at the Plate
Aloy split the SEC Player of the Week award with Georgia’s Ryland Zaborowski, but his numbers were nothing short of spectacular. Over five games, he slashed .632/.667/1.136, hammering three home runs and driving in 11 RBIs. His outstanding performance helped lead the Razorbacks to a perfect 5-0 record during the week.
This is not the first time Aloy has claimed the conference honor. He previously won the award on February 24 following an 8-for-14 performance against Washington State and during the College Baseball Series in Arlington, Texas. His consistency at the plate has made him one of the most dangerous hitters in the SEC.
Leading the Razorbacks
Aloy has been an offensive powerhouse for Arkansas, maintaining a scorching .433 batting average this season. He leads the team in hits (26), doubles (7), and total bases (51), while also tying with his younger brother, Kuhio, and third baseman Brent Iredale for the team lead in home runs (6). His contributions have been instrumental in the Razorbacks’ success, propelling the team to a 15-1 overall record—their best 16-game start since 2006.
During Arkansas’ recent series sweep of Portland, Aloy had a career-best performance, recording his first multi-homer game and back-to-back four-RBI outings. In total, he racked up an SEC-leading 12 hits and 25 total bases over the five-game span.
Defensive Excellence
While Aloy’s offensive numbers are impressive, his defensive contributions cannot be overlooked. He has started 76 consecutive games at shortstop since joining the Razorbacks in 2023 and remains a steady presence in the infield.
Aloy’s defensive highlight of the season came with an over-the-shoulder running catch that landed him on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays. In addition, he has committed just two errors in 54 attempts and has played a crucial role in Arkansas’ double-play efficiency. The Razorbacks currently rank in the Top 15 nationally and second in the SEC with 15 double plays turned.
Looking Ahead
As the Razorbacks prepare for their upcoming matchups, Aloy’s performance will continue to be a key factor in their success. With Arkansas ranking seventh nationally and fourth in the SEC in home runs (33), the team is in a strong position to maintain its winning streak.
Aloy’s hot bat, defensive reliability, and leadership make him a standout player for the Razorbacks, and his continued excellence may earn him even more accolades as the season progresses.
