Duke goes after ACC on social media for Coach of the Year pick
First-year Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey has been named the ACC Coach of the Year, and there’s a very compelling case that he deserves the honor.
His Cardinals went 25-6 overall with an 18-2 ACC record. They enter this all-important time of the season ranked No. 13 in the country and No. 2 in the upcoming ACC basketball tournament.
That’s a big deal for a first year head coach at a school like Louisville.
Yes, Kelsey is deserving of his flowers, but don’t tell that to whomever is running Duke basketball’s social media account. Whoever that is feels upset that Duke head coach Jon Scheyer was snubbed for the award in favor of Kelsey, and they let the ACC have it on Twitter, the platform formerly known as X.
That’s one salty college basketball account, but the Dukies may have a point.
Kelsey got the award because of the job he did at Louisville. He was the head coach at College of Charleston last season while the Cardinals went 8-24. They’re now one of the best teams in the country and will make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018-19.
Meanwhile, Scheyer had one of the best rosters in college basketball, but he still took the Blue Devils to 28-3 with a 19-1 ACC record. Duke finished No. 1 overall in the final men’s poll for the first time since 2021 and the Blue Devils are one of the favorites to win it all this season behind superstar freshman Cooper Flagg.
It’s an interesting debate and one that could be resolved, at least this season, in the ACC Tournament.
