LSU Women’s Basketball Forward Named Semifinalist For Naismith Defensive Player of the Year
On Tuesday morning, LSU Women’s Basketball star, Aneesah Morrow, was named a semifinalist for Naismith Defensive Player of the Year.
Morrow has enjoyed a very strong senior season with the LSU Tigers where she has been named an All-SEC First-Teamer, an All-SEC Defensive-Teamer, a finalist for the Katrina McClain Award and now a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award.
Morrow is a weapon on the offensive end of the floor for the Tigers, averaging 18.5 points while shooting nearly 50% from the field, but her biggest contribution might just be on the defensive side of the ball. She is a bit undersized for a post player, but it allows her to jump passing lanes and cut off entry passes, which led to her averaging 2.6 steals per game this season. Her block numbers are down this year, but she has still been a lockdown defender in the paint. She also ranks fourth in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (8.5).
Morrow has consistently been one of the best defensive players in the country since she arrived on DePaul’s campus four years ago. She came to the SEC to prove she could be just as good at the highest level of women’s college basketball, and if anything, she’s gotten even better.
