Rangers in Shock Talks Over Summer Swoop for Liverpool Superstar Mohamed Salah

Posted on March 25, 2026

Rangers have reportedly held internal talks over a stunning potential move for Mohamed Salah, with the Liverpool star expected to leave Anfield on a free transfer this summer.

The Scottish giants are already preparing for a major transition, with captain James Tavernier set to depart after more than a decade at Ibrox. The 34-year-old right-back recently confirmed he will move on at the end of the season, bringing the curtain down on an era that saw him score 144 goals in 562 appearances while leading Rangers to domestic and European success, including the 2021 league title and a run to the 2022 Europa League final.

Defender Emmanuel Fernandez believes the squad is fully motivated to give their outgoing skipper a fitting farewell by lifting the title. He suggested that ending the campaign with silverware would be the ideal way to honour Tavernier’s long service, adding that the dressing room was shaken when they first heard the news of his exit. Since then, however, it has only strengthened their determination to finish the season strongly.

With Tavernier’s departure confirmed, attention has turned to the summer rebuild. New manager Danny Rohl is expected to receive strong backing as he reshapes a squad he inherited, including the need for reinforcements at right-back. But beyond that, there could be an unexpected marquee addition further forward.

Former Liverpool defender and Rangers advisor Stig Inge Bjornebye revealed that Salah’s situation has at least been discussed internally. While he stopped short of suggesting a deal is close, he admitted the winger’s future has been a topic of conversation following confirmation that he will leave Liverpool.

Salah, often dubbed the “Egyptian King,” leaves behind an extraordinary legacy at Liverpool FC, where he has scored 257 goals and established himself as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats. His honours include multiple league titles, a Champions League triumph, and a collection of individual awards such as several Golden Boots and Player of the Year accolades.

Any move to Glasgow would be hugely complicated financially, with Salah believed to earn around £400,000 per week. For Rangers, a deal would likely depend on the forward accepting a significant pay cut, making it a long shot—but one that has clearly sparked conversation behind the scenes.
