Ohio State QB Julian Sayin Reveals Honest Thoughts About Will Howard
The Ohio State Buckeyes will have a new starting quarterback during the 2025 season. At this point, who that quarterback will be remains up in the air.
Ryan Day and company will hold a three-man competition ahead of the regular season. Those three quarterbacks are Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz, and Tavien St. Clair.
Sayin appears to be the likely choice to replace Will Howard under center. He will be stepping into big shoes, as Howard led Ohio State to a national championship win in his one season with the Buckeyes.
Last offseason, Sayin made the decision to transfer to Ohio State from Alabama. It was a move that set up the Buckeyes for long-term success at quarterback.
Now, he’ll be looking to beat out two other very talented quarterbacks for the 2025 starting job.
On Wednesday following Ohio State’s second spring practice, Sayin spoke to the media. He took some time to open up about Howard.
“Will was a really great leader for this team. It was fun to watch. He was someone who everyone could relate to,” Sayin said.
He also revealed that he’s working hard to become the kind of leader that Howard was for the Buckeyes, but also had an admission to make.
“It’s definitely not easy,” he said.
During his first year with the Ohio State football program, Sayin played very sparingly. He completed five of his 12 pass attempts for 84 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions.
Looking ahead to the 2025 college football season, there is a lot of hype surrounding Sayin to live up to. In the consensus odds from DraftKings and FanDuel, Sayin was ranked No. 7 in the Heisman race back in February.
