Former Indiana Guard Jakai Newton Transfers To Georgia State

Redshirt freshman guard Jakai Newton entered the transfer portal, as he announced last Monday and is now heading back home as he is transferring to Georgia State.
On Friday Newton announced on Instagram he’s headed to Georgia State University in Atlanta, about 30 minutes from where he went to high school in Covington, GA (Newton HS).
Newton in four games and averaged 1.5 points per appearance in 2024-25. Newton had multiple injuries during the season, including a hamstring injury and surgery mid season. Newton also missed the entire 2023-24 season with knee injuries. Newton also suffered a knee injury during his senior year in high school before arrriving at Indiana.
Newton was a 4-star, consensus top 100 recruit out of high school, according tp 247Sports as the 15th-best combo guard in the nation and the 8th-best player in Georgia in the class of 2023.
If he is granted a medical redshirt for the 2024-25 season, he will have four seasons of eligibility remaining.
This off-season Darian DeVries has locked in his son Tucker DeVries, Conor Enright and Trent Sisley for the 2025-26 season.
Georgia State finished 19-17 overall this past season and 10th in the Sun Belt.
