Florida Football Recruiting: Somourian Wingo has a “great relationship” with Gators
Florida’s staff is recruiting four-star wide receiver Somourian Wingo
One of the top wide receivers in the Class of 2026 is giving Florida a good look.
Somourian Wingo, a 6″2, 175 lbs prospect, holds over thirty offers, including those from the likes of Florida State, Miami, and Tennessee. Hailing from Saint Augustine, Florida, Wingo has already taken initivative in his recruiting process, having already visited multiple schools, both officially and unofficially.
Both 247 and ESPN have Wingo as a top 200 overall prospect.
The star receiver is heavily considering Billy Napier and the Gators, who have also reciprocated the interest in acquiring Wingo’s talents. Conversations between the staff and Wingo occur weekly, with Florida wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales serving as the main recruiter and representative for the Gators.
Wingo: Next great Florida wide receiver?
Billy Gonzales has always been spoken highly of by his players, both former and present. His resume includes molding and developing Percy Harvin, Eugene Wilson III, and Van Jefferson. He is also responsible for adding five-stars Vernell Brown III and Dallas Wilson to the roster.
Gonzales hopes to have the same success with Wingo, who tells Hail Florida Hail’s Robert Devlin:
“I have a great relationship with Coach G; it’s always a good time when I visit there or he visits me. I love his personality; everything just matches. And he’s been on me for a while and ain’t never let up, so I’m thankful for that.”
Gonzales is just one of many reasons why Wingo is heavily considering the Gators, who also tells us that proximity is a big factor in his recruitment: “I love that it’s right down the road, hour and 30 minute drive. (Florida) feels like home everytime I’m there.”
“They treat me good, all the way from coaches to recruiting assistants. It’s SEC football, and it’s a family favorite.”
Where Florida stands in the recruitment
Florida is rolling out the red carpet in hopes of folding Wingo into its class, but the Gators have some competition, especially from some rivals. Billy Napier and co will have to fend off multiple top programs, including Miami, South Carolina, LSU, Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee, all of which Wingo named specifically.
As noted earlier, proximity may play a large factor in this recruitment, with both Florida and Miami leading the pack in this area, which may hint at another Cristobal-Napier battle, a struggle we have seen dozens of times over the past few years.
For now, Wingo remains visiting schools and is keeping his options open, yet to reveal a commitment date.
The Gators would love to add another commitment in Wingo to their fold in the Class of 2026, although it appears a commitment timeline may be far away.
