Vanderbilt HC Mark Byington: Auburn doesn’t ‘have any weaknesses

Mark Byington, head coach of the Vanderbilt men’s basketball team, found out the hard way just how good the No. 1-ranked Auburn Tigers are this season.

Vandy and Auburn met Tuesday in Nashville and despite putting up a fight, Vanderbilt lost, 80-68.

It was the Tigers’ 15th win in their past 16 games, with a loss to No. 6 Florida on Saturday being their only blemish during this dominant stretch.

After the contest, Byington showed reverence to Bruce Pearl’s program.

“They don’t have any weaknesses. They can play a different style of basketball, they really execute. Their offense is good and I thought their defense was really impressive [Tuesday]. We struggled early getting rhythm, couldn’t get looks. And then we were able to find some but it wasn’t long lasting. With them, the mistakes compound,” he told the media (h/t On3).

What’s next for Auburn is a massive clash against No. 2 Alabama on the road. If the Tigers can get by Nate Oats’ Crimson Tide, they’ll undoubtedly be the undisputed top team in the country.

They’ll have to keep fighting after that, though. They’ll see the Tide again at the end of the season, but they also play No. 19 Ole Miss, No. 15 Kentucky and No. 8 Texas A&M over the next few weeks.

If you believe Byington, though, this should be no big deal for Auburn.
