LSU Tigers elite offensive tackle Will Campbell receives unbelievably high praise at NFL Combine from an SEC rival pass rusher
Will Campbell finished his career as one of the best LSU Tigers ever, so it’s no wonder he’s drawing high praise amid 2025 NFL Draft season. Campbell posted a 98% career pass rush efficiency mark from Pro Football Focus and only allowed four sacks on more than 2,500 offensive snaps as an LSU Tiger.
As of this writing Campbell is fully expected to go somewhere in the early first round of the 2025 NFL Draft as a clear cut Top 3 offensive tackle in the class. But that’s not the best compliment he’s gotten here recently. Amid all of the NFL Combine action in Indianapolis Campbell received some unbelievably high praise from an unlikely source.
Former Ole Miss (and Florida) edge rusher Princely Umanmielen was asked about the toughest matchup he faced throughout college among all offensive tackles and he quickly mentioned Will Campbell as the obvious choice.
“I’m not going to lie, Will Campbell. I would say he’s the best tackle I’ve played against because of how good he was in the run game. Like, I’ve never played a tackle who was that good and aggressive in the run game.”
It’s quite the quote already from Umanmielen, but it’s even more impressive for Campbell when considering that run blocking isn’t even his primary strength. Yes, he learned to be an absolute mauler in the run game after struggling a bit as a freshman in 2022, but his true elite qualities emerge as a pass blocker.
If a first round edge rusher calls you the best tackle he’s played because of the thing you’re maybe just second best at, we’re talking about a special talent.
There’s still plenty to prove between now and the NFL Draft for Will Campbell, but given all the hype, his likely strong NFL Combine performance, and the high praise from the best that college football has to offer on defense, it’s clear that he has a bright future at the next level and will represent the LSU Tigers well.
