Why Auburn’s Win Vs Alabama Won’t Matter Until Arkansas Showdown

On Saturday afternoon, the Iron Bowl of Basketball provided the college basketball world with the first No. 1 versus No. 2 matchup in the history of the Southeastern Conference. The Auburn Tigers, who remain ranked No. 1, triumphantly defeated the Crimson Tide in Coleman Coliseum  94-85.

“With the year they’re (Alabama) having was an incredible, incredible feat,” Auburn assistant coach Steve Pearl said on The Next Round Live. “(That was) the second best win in all of college basketball for the entire season.”

The Tigers own wins over 14 Quad 1 teams, which is by the far the most in the country. Auburn has beaten No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Houston, No. 8 Iowa State, and many more.

Still, the best win in the country may belong to No. 2 Florida, who went into Auburn’s home building and spanked the Tigers 90-81.

That is why Pearl is harping on his team to continue rolling instead of focusing on the past.

“The Alabama win means nothing if you don’t follow it up on Wednesday night against Arkansas,” Pearl said.

John Calipari’s Razorbacks travel to Neville Arena Wednesday night in a must-win for NCAA Tournament hopeful Arkansas.

“Everybody was happy on Sunday, but then it was back to getting ready for a really good Arkansas team,” Pearl said.

While the Tigers get to play in their home building following the massive Iron Bowl of Basketball bout, Alabama will travel to face No. 15 Missouri for a Wednesday night contest that will test the Crimson Tide’s resiliency.
