Clemson Baseball’s Powerful New Tribute to Military Members Proves Why They’re America’s Team

Clemson baseball has long been known for its passionate fan base, historic traditions, and commitment to excellence on the field. But in 2025, the Tigers are adding something special that sets them apart from every other program in the country. Head coach Erik Bakich and his team have introduced a new in-game tradition that honors the men and women who have served in the United States military, further solidifying Clemson as America’s Team.

A Tradition Bigger Than Baseball

Clemson has always shown deep respect for veterans, recognizing them at sporting events and encouraging fans to stand and applaud those who have served. Now, the baseball program is taking that respect to another level.

Starting this season, at the end of the fourth inning at every home game, God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood will play over the stadium speakers. The PA announcer will then ask all active military members and veterans in attendance to stand, at which point the entire Clemson baseball team will leave the dugout and head into the stands to personally shake hands and thank each standing service member.

For Bakich, this is about more than just baseball—it’s about recognizing the sacrifices made by those who defend our country. The tradition is a reflection of Clemson’s core values, making the Tigers stand out in college baseball as a program that truly appreciates the people who serve.

A Game Day Experience Unlike Any Other

Clemson’s patriotic traditions aren’t limited to baseball. Football fans at Death Valley experience an emotional pregame ritual that has become one of the most patriotic traditions in college sports. Before every Clemson home football game, the stadium pauses as the entire crowd recites the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a powerful rendition of God Bless America. Afterward, the stadium observes a prayer, and then the national anthem is played by the Tiger Band while fans stand in honor of the flag. A military flyover takes place before kickoff, and later in the game, the pilots return to the stadium for an on-field recognition moment.

By incorporating more military appreciation elements into Clemson baseball, Bakich is continuing to enhance the game-day experience at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Inspired by the fan engagement success of the Savannah Bananas, Bakich and his staff are introducing more interactive elements to make attending a Clemson baseball game more exciting than ever. That includes major stadium updates, entertainment between innings, and even beer sales coming to the ballpark later this season.

America’s Team

At a time when many sports programs are looking to connect with their fan bases in unique ways, Clemson is standing out with its commitment to honoring those who serve. Whether it’s football, baseball, or any other sport, fans attending a Clemson game will always hear the national anthem and witness moments dedicated to showing appreciation for the military.

Now, with this new tradition at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, the Clemson Tigers aren’t just playing for wins—they’re playing for something bigger. And that’s why they are truly America’s Team.
