Arkansas Razorbacks Dominate ULM in Series Sweep
The Arkansas Razorbacks put on a show at Baum-Walker Stadium, taking both games of their double midweek series against Louisiana-Monroe in dominant fashion.
The series, which began on Tuesday and was interrupted by severe weather, resumed on Wednesday, with the Razorbacks finishing what they started and extending their winning streak to eight games. Fueled by an explosive offense and solid pitching, Arkansas cruised to 14-1 and 15-3 victories, invoking the run-rule in both contests.
Game 1: Razorbacks Roll in Resumed Contest
Arkansas held a commanding 10-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning on Tuesday before thunderstorms and lightning forced the game to be suspended. The game resumed Wednesday with runners on second and third for the Razorbacks, and it didn’t take long for them to put the contest away.
Wehiwa Aloy (3-for-5, 2B) grounded out before ULM opted to intentionally walk Logan Maxwell (2-for-4) to set up a potential double play. That decision backfired as Kuhio Aloy, Arkansas’ hottest hitter, stepped up and hammered a grand slam to left field, securing a 14-1 win in seven innings. It marked his second career grand slam and a career-high six RBI performance.
On the mound, starter Colin Fisher made his first start since returning from last season’s injury and impressed with three shutout innings, striking out six to earn his first win of the year. Relievers Dylan Carter (2.0 IP, 2 SO), Aiden Jimenez (1.0 IP, 1 SO), and Cole Gibler (1.0 IP, 1 R, 3 SO) combined for four innings of one-run ball to seal the Razorbacks’ commanding victory.
Game 2: Offensive Explosion Propels Hogs to Sweep
The Razorbacks carried their momentum into the second game of the doubleheader, overwhelming ULM with a relentless offensive attack. Arkansas scored early and often, ultimately securing a 15-3 win in seven innings to complete the sweep.
Four Razorbacks homered in the blowout victory, including Kuhio Aloy (2-for-4, HR, 4 RBI), Charles Davalan (2-for-4, HR, 4 RBI), Kendall Diggs (1-for-3, HR, RBI), and Nolan Souza (1-for-3, HR, RBI). Aloy continued his torrid start to the season, raising his slash line to an astonishing .556/.628/1.194 with six home runs and 26 RBI in just 10 games.
His older brother, Wehiwa Aloy, also had a strong showing, chipping in with two doubles and two RBI while extending his reached-base streak to 13 games. Souza, who had struggled early in the season, delivered a walk-off three-run homer in the seventh inning, sealing Arkansas’ fifth run-rule victory of the season.
On the mound, starter Ben Bybee tossed four innings of three-run ball with two strikeouts to earn his second win of the year. Tate McGuire (2.0 IP, 2 SO) and Will McEntire (1.0 IP, 2 SO) combined for three scoreless frames to close out the win.
Looking Ahead
Less than two hours after Arkansas hit its first grand slam of the season, Charles Davalan launched another, a 416-foot blast in the third inning that broke a 3-3 tie and put the Hogs ahead for good. Arkansas, now riding an eight-game winning streak, will shift focus to its final non-conference weekend series against Portland, beginning at 3 p.m. Friday. The game will be streamed on SEC+.
