Sheffield Wednesday earned themselves a spot in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
Sheffield Wednesday went up against some familiar faces when they played Blackpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
One was former manager Steve Bruce who was appointed at Blackpool at the start of this month.
Another being former striker and club record signing Jordan Rhodes who started up front for the Seasiders.
The Owls eventually won the game at Bloomfield Road 1-0 courtesy of a Di’Shon Bernard goal in the first half.
Svante Ingelsson earned praise on the night, with Wednesday players putting in some decent individual performances following that frustrating 1-1 draw vs QPR last weekend.
Sheffield Wednesday have now won all three of their Carabao Cup games this season and could go up against Premier League opposition in the fourth round, with the draw taking place next week.
Danny Rohl impressed with Sheffield Wednesday duo vs Blackpool
Speaking after the game vs Blackpool, Rohl singled out Owls academy duo Gabriel Otegbayo and Sean Fusire for praise.
The pair started the game; it was Otegabayo’s first senior start for the Owls whilst Fusire has now started all three Carabao Cup games this season.
In the previous cup game vs Grimsby Town, Fusire struggled before being withdrawn at half-time, though Rohl saw improvements from the 19-year-old vs Blackpool.
Rohl told The Star: “It was also great to see Sean and Gab, it’s nice to see young players make the next step.
“I saw improvement from Sean after Grimsby, and in the end I think we deserved our win.”
Sean Fusire can be Barry Bannan heir at Sheffield Wednesday
At such a young age, the likes of Fusire are obviously still learning the game, and so Rohl can mould him into the type of midfielder he wants.
And with Barry Bannan now entering his latter years in the game and likely out of contract at the end of this season, Rohl might view Fusire as a long-term successor to Bannan in the middle of the pitch.
Fusire has that liveliness in the middle that Bannan has, and he showed some neat passing on Tuesday night too; Fusire completed 35 passes on the night with an accuracy of 92%.
With Shea Charles only on loan too, Rohl’s midfield options could become very light next season, and so Fusire could become a useful player next time round.
He’ll need to be given some first-team exposure this season, though.
